Overview

The purpose of this job is to use Public Finance skills to provide practical application in the areas of portfolio management, preparation of loan packages, relationship development, community bank municipal underwriting/pricing support and other duties as needed to contribute to the overall achievement of departmental goals and Trustmark’s public finance lending objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Meet and exceed public finance goals through quality loan growth and cross selling to other product lines
  • Practice public finance loan portfolio management skills through practical application of assigned portfolio including project analysis, loan underwriting, proper risk analysis and identification of risk rate, packaging and presentation, loan doc prep and closing, collateral analysis, past due notice management, etc. Work with Audit, Loan Review and the OCC as needed
  • Facilitate and manage the internal credit and pricing approval process by collaborating with Credit Administration and Treasury Administration
  • Practice business development skills through the practical application of performing development calls to customers and centers of influence to gain further experience in outside loan production and negotiations and support achievement of new business goals
  • Provide high level of service and support to Trustmark’s footprint and officers to facilitate the bank’s public finance lending strategy. This includes involvement in counseling, coordinating, and collaborating with market officers, various attorneys, financial advisors, and with Trustmark’s Treasury/Credit Administration to facilitate the municipal lending process while mitigating risk to the bank
  • Provide a high level of service to existing clients

Qualifications

  • Developed understanding of lending and credit approval process as well as pertinent bank policies and external regulations
  • Working knowledge of accounting or finance related to government entities
  • Working knowledge of public finance/municipal bond investment banking work, municipal debt issues, and private/direct placement municipal loans
  • Detailed knowledge of credit analysis practice and procedure
  • Developed decision making and negotiation skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • General working knowledge of PC operations to include word processing and spreadsheet applications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2 years proven and progressive public finance banking experience, or 5 years in commercial or corporate banking experience

Additional qualifications Level II: 

 

  • Minimum of 5 years proven and progressive public finance banking experience, or 10 years in commercial or corporate banking experience.
