Overview

Trustmark Investment Management operates as a fiduciary in the management and advising Wealth clients. These activities include financial planning, asset allocation, security selection, trading implementation, and other activities as required of a regulated national bank providing wealth services.

 

The purpose of this position is to prepare and present financial plans and financial planning services (i.e. Advice) to high net worth and ultra-high net worth clients and prospective clients, while acting in a fiduciary capacity at all times. Financial Planners analyze clients’ financial wellbeing based on the client’s balance sheet, goals, objectives, and other family considerations. They design and present individualized, comprehensive and/or modular financial plans as part of the service team comprised of Portfolio Managers, Wealth Advisors, Client Executives, Private Bankers, and Investment Analysts. Topics may include, but are not limited to retirement & income planning, estate planning, trusts structures, charitable plans and gifting, and tax planning with both internal and external professionals.

 

**This position may be filled as a level I, II, or III based on additional experience and qualifications required**

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with other members of the Wealth team in solving client needs and complex issues related to life, business, and planning.
  • Coordinate plans and workflow with Analysts who support the financial planning process.
  • Meet with prospects and clients to discover needs, goals, and objectives, review client information, and present financial plans with their service team.
  • Design financial plans with recommendations based on client data and goals.
  • Maintain systems to track financial planning activities, progress, and results.
  • Travel as needed to conduct meetings and presentations to clients, prospects, internal company presentations, and external advisory firms and civic organizations.
  • Proven work ethic with high level of integrity to build trust with our clients and internal partners.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Level II Additional Responsibilities:

  • All responsibilities of Financial Planner I, plus:
  • Guide and mentor individuals in the Analyst and Financial Planner I roles.
  • Help financial planning and Wealth Team members stay abreast of current issues in financial planning as well as tax and estate/gift laws relevant to our business.
  • Work with more complex client cases, requiring additional analysis and/or high-level input and guidance.
  • Proactively engage bank partners to create awareness while representing Wealth and Financial Planning capabilities and expertise.
  • Act as a leader within the team and among bank business partners with influence that extends beyond the Wealth team sphere
  • Ability to articulate the value and importance of financial planning services.
  • Ensure a seamless delivery of our comprehensive wealth management approach while leveraging additional partners and resources as appropriate.

Level III Additional Responsibilities:

  • All responsibilities of Financial Planner II, plus:
  • Guide and mentor individuals in the Analyst and Financial Planner I/II roles.
  • Work with highly complex client cases, requiring additional analysis and/or expert-level input and guidance.
  • Proactively engage bank partners and external COIs to create awareness while representing Wealth and Financial Planning capabilities and expertise.
  • Coordinate with Wealth Leadership and managers to refine the Financial Planning process, infrastructure, deliverables, and experience – both internally and externally.
  • Act as a leader within the team and among bank business partners with influence that extends beyond the Wealth team sphere, both within the company and externally.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related discipline.
  • 3 years of experience in the Financial Services industry (e.g., investment analysis, financial planning, investment management, or similar endeavor).
  • Certified Financial Planner® designation.
    • ** Applicants who already hold the CPA or CFA designation, may complete the CFP during their first year of employment, under the CFP Board’s Accelerated Path option.**
  • Foundational knowledge in key areas of financial planning: retirement, taxes, estate planning, investment vehicles, life insurance, disability, long-term care insurance, business succession, charitable giving, and generational wealth.
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Solid and proficient financial analysis and decision-making skills.
  • Solid presentation skills.
  • High level of commitment and self-motivation, with a desire to help others.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with solid math and analytical capabilities.
  • Detail-oriented with an awareness of the impact of assumptions in building client scenarios
  • Experience with Money Guide Pro or other financial planning tools and software preferred
  • Pursuit of CFA, CMT, or other relevant professional designations preferred
  • MBA preferred

Level II Additional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related discipline.
  • Certified Financial Planner® designation.
    • ** Applicants who already hold the CPA or CFA designation, may complete the CFP during their first year of employment, under the CFP Board’s Accelerated Path option.**
  • 4 years of Financial Services Industry Experience in addition to 2 years of Financial Planning Experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial planning: retirement, taxes, estate planning, investment vehicles, life insurance, disability, long-term care insurance, business succession, charitable giving, and generational wealth.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in critical wealth management issues.
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Advanced financial analysis and decision-making skills.
  • Advanced presentation capabilities.

 

Level III Additional Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related discipline.
  • Certified Financial Planner® designation.
    • ** Applicants who already hold the CPA or CFA designation, may complete the CFP during their first year of employment, under the CFP Board’s Accelerated Path option.**
  • 6 years of Financial Services Industry Experience in addition to 4 years of Financial Planning for high-net-worth individuals.
  • Expert level knowledge and experience in all areas of financial planning: retirement, taxes, estate planning, investment vehicles, life insurance, disability, long-term care insurance, business succession, charitable giving, and generational wealth.
  • Superior communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Easily and fluidly discusses complex topics or concepts, making it understandable and relatable to clients.
  • Creates custom analytics and/or seeks others' expertise to develop the analysis needed to convey a concept or message.
  • Emotional Intelligence and insight
    • Adept at understanding clients' needs and sophistication, and adjusting to the situation.
    • Adaptable and relatable to clients from divergent backgrounds and experience.
    • Perceptive and insightful as it relates to challenging or conflicting family dynamics, relationships, and needs.
  • Outstanding financial analysis and decision-making skills, using intuition and experience gained from complex scenarios.
  • Comfortable and dynamic in presenting in both small and large group setting

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Must be able to sit for long periods of time and use computer keyboard and/or mouse, while viewing computer screens. Must be able to travel as needed for day or overnight travel for meetings and presentations
